Update on chair fabric...

This fabric has been bothering me, had discussed smaller repeat and another colour way but as I am planning to digitally print this one and just did not/could not like it enough to warrant the money. This morning I went to see Jackie to mull it over, make some buttons have tea.... Jackie has a curtain business and a strong eye for pattern/repeat ect, her suggestion was to put it on a chair to scale... we looked at pattern books and after coming home I decided to go large and I like this...(I think!)   Thank you Jackie
New photo better proportioned print/pattern

Been awhile...

Well done to Bev who has launched her own stamp collection! Today got home and some industry scraps I send for, has arrived. Was thinking of using in the wool question, but not sure of origin even though 90% wool or maybe a material from non woven ...'The Unexpected' Sorry blog a little boaring but will begin to mess with samples soon...

Moving forward..

I am loving this ..just wish I was here last year. In researching for the wool project I was looking at tartan fabrics...I think it rubbed of a little. I now may think of putting this into another category, will phone and see if one project can be under two categories.

Archived fabric sample

A mood board but also the development and concept of my design posted a couple of weeks back

New project

Mood board one for a felting project

Same project but another mood board

For this project I want to work with the natural colours and properties of the felting wool looking for sculptural textures/surfaces with a graphic hard edge motif. I am looking at washers and gaskets for shapes and design inspiration:- circuit boards and crop circles, woollen tweed and tartan fabrics to keep with the British wool/ made in Britain with British materials theme. I have sourced some felt off cuts from manufacturers of washers and gaskets,(still to arrive) and have ideas...Can't wait to try.

New Design Britain, Interiors UK 2012

New Design Britain, Interiors UK 2012

Colleen Ellington/ Lucy Alice Porter/ Sophie Adamson
Interiors UK 2012 showcased the work of this year’s New Design Britain Awards finalists with the winners in each design category being announced on the 23rd of January. Each winner in the four categories (furniture, furnishing accessories, surfaces and fabrics) were awarded a placement within the industry.
Although Colleen Ellington and Lucy Alice Porter didn’t take home first prize in their categories, we were really impressed with their work. Colleen, who graduated from Cleveland College of Art and Design, created some vibrant, luxe surface designs for interiors covered with decorated with animal and figurative motifs. Lucy Alice Porter’s series of owl and squirrel shaped wall decorations were also really eye-catching.
Heriot-Watt University – School of Textiles and Design graduate Sophie Adamsonscooped up the top prize in the fabrics category for her Pouffe design. Drawing inspiration from bird feathers, Sophie created a wonderfully thick yarn which incorporated both hand and machine knitting techniques.
Rachel Hagger
Taking home first prize in the Surfaces category was Rachel Hagger who designed hand-printed wallpaper covered with an architectural motif. Drawing inspiration from Cavern Home interiors and Trove wallpapers, Rachel layers the different images to great a busy, bustling cityscape.
James Uren/ Roland Beaven
James Uren was lucky enough to take home both the people’s choice award and the award for best furniture design. James’ Luso Lounger is a modern reinterpretation of the classic Chaise Longue while his Dorso Stool is an investigation into different ways of joining wooden components together using a second material. Roland Beaven was awarded the prize in the furnishing accessories category for his Peaucellier Lamp.

I am back...

New Design Britain was a fantastic opportunity, very busy gather all sorts of useful insight. Met some wonderful people, we all just got along very well, planning to stay in touch. I do not have many interesting photos but hopefully the others may forward some. Have not sold the chair hoping to get it in a gallery plus some other ideas. Busy now with Bradford competition...

Using one of the collection pieces for inspiration... practising repeats. Comments are welcome please!
