An observation...

At present when I look at surface pattern and design I seem to be seeing allot of illustrator- seamless repeats. I enjoy  working like this but the difference is that I will take the work back to hand rendered screen printed fabrics, wallpaper and surface decoration.  I have 'binned' and laid to rest other ideas and will now concentrate on doing a design taking it to a screen and perfecting my screen printing style/technique. I will post images as hopefully this Easter break will allow me the time to do this.

....

I do worry as this sort of work is all too easy to be copied, but it is a double edge sword as I want the work to be seen, but would also like people to realise thay cannot copy the work in any form..

Moving on...

Well the owl canvas is officially finished with...pushed it way to to far.  It has answered questions, given me ideas, and now I will continue the concept...but in screen printing...

OWL

Last post tonight a quick...repeat, an idea to go forward in two ways...rough and sketchy and very graphic and then screen printed..

Washing screens

Just the job for a sunny day.....

My all time favourite screen, was given to me ten years ago+/- a print shop closing down, it was torn and blocked, I have tape the main tear and still use it even though there are two other tears...

One canvas...

Started out with blossoms and lost interest, grey in the background should have been softer...just did not excite me

Adding my favourite...... texture

Gone back to 'the past ways' and has done nothing for me, I have very little acrylics as gave them away...which is a good thing as with this not working there is no way I can continue with acrylic...

but  a prize, I recently won -  six tins of spray paint...hmmm

being me I worked back in with thinners..liking this
layers of paint and varnish...

Colours do not show up so well...but this is better, top picture reflects more closely the colour.  A friend won some other colours so she will let me use some of her cans.  Will post again when finished...

I am going to concentrate on screen printing after this.

'The Bunch'

Between last post and picking one daughter up, putting tea on and going to collect the other daughter, I used Photoshop to merge drawing and texture...just love the marks from etching plate when rubbed with rough scrim...

Old example ...2004

"Where can inspiration come form...."

I have been cutting up old etching and prints to more manageable size throwing out the rubbish bits. I liked these bits and saw an owl in them?...then things just snowballed, I have, in my distant past practice liked squares and grids/graph paper, and strived to paint everything square...but not in 'McKenzie' way! So from this..

to this instead of space invaders with the stripe...

and then,  a few minuets ago these pages....

I am not sure if I should go back, but loving this top left corner....just think I should do as a large canvas....

Something form long ago

I said I was going to post some old work... this was from high school days not too sure when ...1979 - 1980 ish.
I am trying to sort my website out and it is driving me nuts..silly packages that limit you. You would think that if you uploaded file after file of images that you can see and access, that you then would be able to do a new gallery/layout from these!!!! How stupid that you need to upload again...

Competition posted!

The sculpted wool piece I have been so excited about...
idea, concept, copyright belong the artist

going...going ...posted
I will post more images of proposed installation /artwork that the wool piece can and maybe, will become..."

The black sheep of the family"
A 'fine arty' title with no intention to offend purely a reflection that the wool tops I was sent for this project contained this wool from a black sheep in Scotland, cream/white wool from a Dorset mother ewe and cream/white lambs wool

Done some housework..tea break

Cannot help myself...just had too

Housework can wait...

Illustrator..rough but put into quick repeat..
Photoshop--scan and colour

Some drawing

Did a little 'proper' drawing last week. Then a dry point etching. Had to revisit naive older style... just to check it out

Barn Owl from primary

Grass Owl.....
Gone too far, working on Joseph as a production he became 'Hootaekamoon' Sixth Form student I was working with liked the humour...

Dry pint etching will mess about with this in illustrator...do like the line quality --only good for cushion covers?

Nearly ready for posting

Everything is ready to mount and send off

Archive textile, this has been a fantastic way to work and will do so in future
The background image was from website of Diana
Civil, who did the entrance at New Design Britain 2012. I really like her work.

The part I am most existed about is the Wool Board submission, I know it seems silly but I am worried about my being copied..as soon as I have posted this I will put some photo's  on...
